'Boko Haram Not Fighting for Islam' - Jimoh

Chairman, Committee of Muslim Organisations in Kwara State, Professor Shehu Ahmad Jimoh, has challenged Colleges of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies spread across the 19 Northern states of the country to look into the issue of Boko Haram with a view to educating the public on the fact that the sect is not fighting an Islamic cause. Jimoh lamented that there is a lot of misconceptions about Boko Haram as some sections of the country erroneously link the sect to Islam. Speaking in Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (CAILS), Ilorin during the foundation laying of a law auditorium donated to the school by the former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Alfa Belgore and a send-forth for its outgoing provost, Dr. Abdus Semi'I Arikewuyo, Jimoh said, "I challenge you to examine the issue of Boko Haram. Let us enlighten the government and the people of Nigeria that Boko Haram is not a religious organisation, they are not fighting the cause of Islam". The don also challenged diploma-awarding colleges nationwide to set a clear identity for themselves by getting national recognition to their certificates, while advocating the establishment of a body that would coordinate their activities. He tasked the Kwara State government to provide more funding for CAILS, saying, "It is unfortunate that government doesn't fund the college. When the college prepares its budget, it is only recurrent that features, making minimal provision for capital projects. The college deserves special attention because of its significance to Islam and Ilorin". The former CJN promised to mobilise friends and colleagues to ensure early completion of the college.
