The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved full-time Degree Programmes for the Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (CAILS), Ilorin in affiliation with the Bayero University (BUK) Kano beginning from 2012/2013 academic session. The approved programmes are:
- B. A. Hons. Arabic
- B. A. Hons. Islamic Studies
- The admission is open for both UTME (i.e. 100 level) and direct entry candidates.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
The admission requirements in the college are in compliance with the general provisions of the NUC and the University of Affiliation.
100 LEVEL: - in addition to an acceptable pass in the UTME and Post-UTME screening, successful candidates must have five credits in WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, SIS and Grade II certificates, two of which must be relevant to the programme of study:
The minimum cut off points for admitting students in to 100 LEVEL at the University of Affiliation is currently 180, but is subject to change, as may be determined by the NUC and the University of Affiliation from time to time. In addition, all candidates must have credit in English at the SSCE, NECO, SISC and NABTEB examinations.
Direct Entry (200 Level):
- Diploma in Arabic and Islamic Studies from Bayero University Kano
- NCE (Arabic/Islamic Studies as one of the Principal subjects).
- Diploma in Arabic and Islamic Studies from any recognized Tertiary Institution.
In addition to the above requirements all candidates must have credit in English at the SSCE, NECO, SISC, NABTEB and Grade II Teachers Certificate Examinations.
ADMISSION POLICY/REQUIREMENTS FOR TWO/THREE YEARS DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES
A candidate is admitted into the Diploma Programmes of the College if he possesses one or a combination of the following:
- Relevant Certificate of the Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies, Ilorin with at least Merit grade in four subjects relevant to the proposed course of study.
- Certificate in Arabic and Islamic Studies of any Tertiary Institution recognized by the College.
- Diploma in the Teaching of (Primary) Arabic and Islamic Studies from a recognized Tertiary Institution.
- WASC/SSCE/NECO/GCE/TC GRII/SISC /with credit or merit in at least four (teaching) subjects including the relevant ones to the proposed course of study.
- Thanawiih/Tawjihiyyah certificate from an Arabic Senior Secondary School recognized or affiliated to the Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies, Ilorin.
- Any other qualification acceptable by the College as equivalent to any of the above.
ADMISSION POLICY/REQUIREMENTS FOR PRE-DIPLOMA PROGRAMME (FULL-TIME)
A candidate is admitted into the Pre-Diploma Programmes if he/she possesses one or a combination of the following:
- WASC/SSCE/NECO/GCE/TC GRII/SISC with pass in subject required for a desired diploma.
- Any other qualification acceptable by the College as equivalent to any of the above.
ADMISSION POLICY/REQUIREMENTS FOR ONE YEAR CERTIFICATE
A candidate is admitted into the Certificate Programmes if he/she possesses one or a combination of the following:
- Proficiency Certificate of the College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies, Ilorin with at least merit grade in the relevant subjects.
- Certificate in Arabic from recognized Arabic Schools.
- WASC/SSCE/NECO/GCE/TC GRII/SISC with credit/merit in the major and minor subjects to be offered in the course of study.
- Higher Islamic Studies Certificate (RISC)
- Any other qualification acceptable by the College as equivalent to any of the above.
ADMISSION POLICY/REQUIREMENTS FOR REMEDIAL PROGRAMMES
A candidate is admission into the Remedial Programmes if he/she possesses one or a combination of the following:
- WASC/SSCE/NECO/GCE/TC GRII/SISC with pass in some subjects (but with gross deficiency in the subject(s) required for the desired Diploma Programme)
- Any other qualification acceptable by the College as equivalent to any of the above.
ADMISSION POLICY/REQUIREMENTS FOR PROFESSIONAL COMPUTER TRAINING PROGRAMMES
Certificate Course: Evidence of completion of Secondary School if required
Strong>Diploma Course:
- Minimum of 2 credits with at least 2 passes or completion of a certificate course in computer study.
- Holder of any 1st Degree/HND
- Any other qualification acceptable to the College.
