Dr Sa'ad Hadi, Acting Provost, College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (CAILS), Ilorin has said that the institution remains steadfast in nurturing legal minds.
The Acting Provost made the statement during the celebration of elevation in rank, of one of the institution’s alumni, Yunus AbdulSalam SAN.
The event was organised by Law students of the institution in collaboration with the 2003 alumni set, on Saturday in Ilorin.
Hadi said that the achievement of the celebrant shows that graduates of CAILS could compete and excel at the highest level and contribute meaningfully to the society.
“One of the significant development underway is the construction of our new Moot court facility sponsored by the Grand Khadi of Shariah Court of Appeal, Justice AbdulLateef Kamaldeen.
“The project represent our dedication to creating immersive learning environment that equip students with practical legal skill, stimulate real-world legal proceedings, hone their advocacy skills and engage in critical thinking.
“We are working diligently to meet the necessary criteria through government support and assistance from our alumni,” he said.
Also, Justice AbdulLateef Kamaldeen, Grand Khadi of Shariah Court of Appeal urged School of Law students and new generation in the profession to be honest and transparent in all they do.
The Grand Khadi said that upcoming lawyers should know the importance of the profession and acquire more knowledge in order to enhance their skill.
AbdulRauf Akinola, Vice-president of Student Union Government (SUG) of the institution noted that they organised the program in order to create awareness for students about their capability in their field of study.
Akinola, also a student at Law department said that the purpose of the program was for the public awareness on quality knowledge that the institution impact on students, just like the achievement of the SAN.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the SAN, Yunus AbdulSalam was one of the newest and youngest SAN in Nigeria.
He founded Yunus Abdulsalam & Co. and began his career with Diploma-in-Law at College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (CAILS), Ilorin.
The celebrant graduated from Bayero University, attended the Nigerian Law School and was admitted to the Nigerian Bar as a Solicitor and Advocate of Supreme Court of Nigeria.
He specialised on criminal and civil matters with deep foray into election petition matters and debt recovery.
