KWARA CAILS ACADEMIC STAFF UNION (COLAASU) INAUGURATES NEWLY ELECTED EXECUTIVE, ORGANISES SEND FORTH FOR RETIREE AND GET-TOGETHER FOR MEMBERS
The Kwara CAILS Academic Staff Union (COLAASU) inaugurated its newly elected executive and organized a send forth and get-together ceremony for its members on 6thof January, 2025. The ceremony was held to bid farewell to a pioneer academic staff member, Dr. AbdulRazzaq Solagberu, and to mark the handing over of the outgoing executive to the newly elected one.
In attendance were the Acting Provost, who also served as the Chairman of the occasion, and other members of the management, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Labour Matters, Alh. Abdulkareem Mumini Onagun, Deans, Directors, members of JASUTI, COLAASU members and other dignitaries.
The Acting Provost expressed gratitude to Allah (SWT) for the gathering and appreciated the Union for celebrating and honouring a pioneer academic staff who has left an indelible mark in his field and within the institution. He described Dr. AbdulRazzaq Solagberu as a man of rare virtues, a scholar of Sufism, and a member of the College Elders.
Speaking on the handing over to the new executive, the Acting Provost remarked, "We are also witnessing the transition of leadership in our Academic Staff Union - a testament to our commitment to continuity, growth, and service." He commended the outgoing executive for their selfless service and commitment to the welfare of members and the progress of the College.
The outgoing Chairman of the Union, Dr. (Mrs.) Hassana Taiye Umar, acknowledged the immeasurable impact of the retiree, Dr. AbdulRazzaq Solagberu, as a true leader who has positively impacted countless individuals. She said, "His leadership, guided by wisdom, humility, and integrity, has been a shining example of what it means to serve with compassion and dedication. Throughout his tireless efforts, he has fostered a sense of community and unity, promoting peace, understanding, and social progress. We are forever grateful for his contributions and pray that Allah continues to bless and guide him."
Dr. Hassana Taiye Umar also reflected on the Union's achievements during their tenure, which include among others the foundation laying of the Union's secretariat and securing 90% COMPCASS in collaboration with JASUTI. She also recognized and congratulated the new Ph.D. holders in the College, stating, "It is with immense joy and pride that I reflect on one of the most significant achievements of our members during our tenure. By the grace and blessings of Almighty Allah, five of our members successfully completed their Ph.D. programs, while one member also completed a master's program. This remarkable feat is a testament to the dedication, hard work, and perseverance of these individuals."
The Registrar, Mallam Afolabi Suleiman (MNIM), in his goodwill message to Dr. AbdurRazzaq Mustapha Balogun Solagberu, described him as a distinguished scholar, a devout spiritual leader, and an exceptional mentor. He identified Dr. Solagberu as not just a mentor and advisor but also a role model and spiritual father whose wisdom and integrity have left indelible marks on all who have had the privilege of knowing him.
In his response, Dr. AbdulRazzaq Solagberu expressed gratitude to the Union and College staff for the opportunity and thoughtful farewell ceremony. He encouraged active staff to demonstrate dedication and professionalism in their duties.
The Union also honored Comrade Abdulkareem M. Onagun, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Labour Matters, with a prestigious award for his unwavering dedication and unrelenting efforts in supporting the unions in tertiary institutions across the state.
The oath of office was administered to the new Chairman ; Comr. Mal. Aminullahi Mubarak and his team by the deputy Provost Academics; Barr. Adam Toyin Jamiu marking the beginning of a new era in the Union' leadership.
